Loved this devotion with the one year Bible today. So I thought I'd share it:

Daily Devotional

Written by Larry Stockstill

Like the six branches of the lampstand in the tabernacle, there are six facets of the Holy Spirit's character. First, He is the Spirit of wisdom, revealing to us His future purposes both for ourselves and for His kingdom. Second, He is the Spirit of understanding, giving us revelation about our present situation and how best to be fruitful in it. Third, He is the Spirit of counsel, instructing us in solving hard problems by discerning the root causes. Fourth, He is the Spirit of might, strengthening us with power in our inner man and anointing us with His spiritual gifts. Fifth, He is the Spirit of knowledge, revealing to us the various attributes of Jesus in the Word of God. Finally, He is the Spirit of the fear of the Lord, showing us areas of our lives where sin has a foothold and then changing us into the image of Christ.

Jesus, the "stump of David's family" (Isaiah 11:1), perfectly portrayed all these characteristics. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you today with these six attributes, and you will walk like Jesus walked!

Ignite Recap

***Every time I go on a retreat at my church I keep the little notebook for a while and then I end up throwing it away. I really want to keep the notes but I hate having stuff around my house that I have no idea what to do with. The other day I realized that I could post the notes on my blog! That way I always have them AND other people can possibly benefit from them too! These are from the marriage conference that we went to in February.***

"When two of you are just alike, one of you is not needed." -Joe McGee

Jimmy Evans-Session 1-God's Indestructible Plan for Marriage

Ephesians 5:21-33-Standard for marriage.
-This is God's plan, there is no plan B

1. The roles in Eph. 5 make us attractive to our spouse
  • you're not the boss, Jesus is
  • 1 Peter 3- chaste & respectful behavior
  • Honor is the key to a man's heart
  • You're either your spouses dream-maker or dream-breaker
2. The roles in Eph. 5 release our potential
  • 1 Corinthians 11:7
  • Men are the glory of God, women are the glory of their husbands

  • A husband is a greenhouse, a wife is a good cheerleader
    • celebrate everything he does right
    • say negative things in a positive way
3. The roles in Eph. 5 disable our sin nature
  • Eve's sin was not talking to Adam and not waiting on God
  • Women's sin nature is independence
  • Men's is irresponsibility
    • (Adam was standing right there and didn't say anything)
  • The way Jesus treats the church is the standard
4. The roles in Ephesians 5 make us sensitive to each other's needs
  • Men:
    • Honor (where you want him to be, not where he is)
    • Sex
    • Be buddies and have fun
    • Supportive home
  • Women:
    • Security
    • Soft, non-sensual affection
    • Open and honest communication

"The atmosphere women need for sex is the same as men need for opening up."
"You're at your best when you're having fun."
Jimmy Evans-Session 2-Disarming Destructive Fear-4 Features of Marriage in the Garden

1. Intimacy with God- Identity, Security, Purpose
  • People love you based on what they don't know, God loves you knowing everything
  • When you set your spouse up to be Jesus, you curse your marriage
2. Equal Partnership
3. Common Purpose-Genesis 1:27-28 "them"
  • God wont give you different purposes
  • "Why did God put us together?"
4. Total nakedness without fear or shame- Genesis 2:25, 2 Timothy 1:7

  • 4 Curses of Fear
    • It makes us selfish-1 John 4:18
    • It makes us sinful
    • It makes us say negative and damaging words- Proverbs 18:21
    • It makes us stupid
      • Fear dance: hurt, want, fear, react
      • Fear is a prophet spirit from hell
      • Fear is a Godless future
  • Sources of Fear
    • Desires-greatest fear matches greatest need
    • Design-priority of marriage (jealousy)
    • Damage from past
    • Demonic spirits
  • Disarm destructive fear:
    • Take off your fig leaves (be honest about your fear)
    • Take responsibility for your behavior
    • Put faith in God
    • Treat fear as an enemy and don't let it control you (expect fear and then inspect fear, and then reject it)

 Sex is for:
1. Reproduction
2. Comfort
3. Pleasure
4. Didn't get this one...

***That's it. Sorry it's so long. :)***

Psalm 73

I've been reading the One Year Bible and I have a confession: I haven't really been enjoying the Psalms. Doesn't that sound horrible? I know that sometimes different parts of the Bible speak to you in different times and in different ways, but this has really been bothering me. Today, however, was Psalm 73 and it really spoke to me. I especially  like it in the NLT version, so I thought I would post it here:

A psalm of Asaph.
1 Truly God is good to Israel,
to those whose hearts are pure.
2 But as for me, I almost lost my footing.
My feet were slipping, and I was almost gone.
3 For I envied the proud
when I saw them prosper despite their wickedness.
 4 They seem to live such painless lives;
their bodies are so healthy and strong.
 5 They don’t have troubles like other people;
they’re not plagued with problems like everyone else.
6 They wear pride like a jeweled necklace
      and clothe themselves with cruelty.
7 These fat cats have everything
their hearts could ever wish for!
 8 They scoff and speak only evil;
in their pride they seek to crush others.
9 They boast against the very heavens,
and their words strut throughout the earth.
10 And so the people are dismayed and confused,
      drinking in all their words.
11 “What does God know?” they ask.
“Does the Most High even know what’s happening?”
12 Look at these wicked people—
enjoying a life of ease while their riches multiply.
13 Did I keep my heart pure for nothing?
Did I keep myself innocent for no reason?
 14 I get nothing but trouble all day long;
      every morning brings me pain.
15 If I had really spoken this way to others,
I would have been a traitor to your people.
16 So I tried to understand why the wicked prosper.
But what a difficult task it is!
17 Then I went into your sanctuary, O God,
and I finally understood the destiny of the wicked.
18 Truly, you put them on a slippery path
and send them sliding over the cliff to destruction.
19 In an instant they are destroyed,
      completely swept away by terrors.
20 When you arise, O Lord,
you will laugh at their silly ideas
as a person laughs at dreams in the morning.
21 Then I realized that my heart was bitter,
and I was all torn up inside.
22 I was so foolish and ignorant—
I must have seemed like a senseless animal to you.
 23 Yet I still belong to you;
      you hold my right hand.
24 You guide me with your counsel,
leading me to a glorious destiny.
25 Whom have I in heaven but you?
I desire you more than anything on earth.
26 My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak,
      but God remains the strength of my heart;
      he is mine forever.
27 Those who desert him will perish,
for you destroy those who abandon you.
28 But as for me, how good it is to be near God!
I have made the Sovereign Lord my shelter,
and I will tell everyone about the wonderful things you do.

Hope you have a happy weekend!

A Marriage

I attended a marriage conference this past weekend at my church. It was awesome. I learned a ton of stuff and, really, just had a good time hanging out with my husband.

But all the marriage talk really got me in the "thinking about marriage" mood.

I don't really think about "marriage" that often. At least, not with that terminology. Married life, for me, has been nothing like I expected. I love it. I basically see it as getting to hang out with my best friend everyday and always having someone who's got my back. I highly recommend it.

But as I was uncharacteristically pondering marriage, I came across this thought: being married has set me free. Allow me to explore this:

I've never really been super self conscious, but I've had my insecurities just like everyone else. One thing I never expected marriage to do was set me free of my inhibitions. Let me give an example: while at this marriage conference, the guest speaker asked that any couples who felt like they were called to use their marriage to do ministry in the area of marriage, stand up. The two couples that we were sitting with stood up. Now, in the past, I probably would have stood up. Not because I'm a follower, but because I would have been thinking "Well God probably wants me to do ministry in every area so this is probably for me." But I didn't stand up. Because, as far as I am currently aware, I'm not called to that ministry. And I am totally ok with that. I know that I don't have to do it all. I've got no one to impress.
I wear what I want to wear now, without apology. I like the things that I like, without being embarassed because other people might not like them. I'm interested in the things I'm interested in, and I give up on the things I realize I'm not interested in. I pursue the dreams and goals I have, without looking around to see if my friends are doing the same thing.

I can't explain it, and I didn't realize that these things corresponded with my married life until the other day. All I can think is, having someone in my corner, someone who will (and has!) see the very best, worst and weirdest of me, and still ADORES me, has given me confidence.

I don't worry that other girls are prettier or cooler than me, because my husband doesn't want them. He wants me, and he makes sure I know it. This doesn't mean that I don't still have issues or that my life is perfect. BY ANY MEANS. It also doesn't mean that I "let myself go" because I feel so comfortable that I don't think I have to worry about what I look like. That is not the point that I'm trying to convey. Rather, having the kind of love from another person that marriage provides has made me feel safe.

Trey is my buddy, my best friend, my biggest fan, my cohort, my partner, my encourager, my shoulder. He is the first person I want to tell anything too. He makes me laugh more than anyone else. He "gets" me. He knows when I'm happy, sad, mad, lying, whatever.

I'm so happy and so blessed. I'd give you the secret if I knew it. But I don't. All I know is that aaaaaallllll this also lets me know that God loves me. Because the only way things could have worked out so well is if He orchestrated them. And I think that's what a good marriage should do: show you how much God loves you and draw you closer to Him.

All for now, sorry if this is a bit long. Just something I've been thinking about...:)

Tipping

Yesterday I worked a 12 hour day at the cafe. My church is hosting a mini-conference for pastors who are looking to plant churches.

And yesterday, as I came to the end of my shift, I was a little shocked by something: there was no tips in the tip jar. Not a penny, not even any pocket lint. Nothing. Now I don't really care about the money. Usually I make at least a couple dollars a day in tips, but I just see it as a blessing and I definitely don't EXPECT it.

Another fact you should probably know: all the pastors at this mini-conference got their drinks for free.

I had heard this stereotype of Christians before: servers at restaurants dread the "after church" crowd on Sunday afternoons who come around, stay all afternoon, and tip terribly. I had even heard about it happening at other events our church puts on exclusively for pastors. I guess I just didn't believe it.

I'm not writing about this to complain or to point a finger at these particular pastors. Please don't read it that way. I am writing about this because it make me think. Again, it wasn't the money that bothered me, it was the let down. I work at a very generous church and I guess I have just come to expect more from Christians, especially people who are on staff at a church.

It's sad, isn't it? That the "salt of the earth" has lost it's flavor in this way? Instead, we leave a bad taste in people's mouths when we aren't generous. Servers everywhere groan when we walk in the doors of their restaurants on a Sunday afternoon.

How can we change this perception?

For This Week

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God,
and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust

I've been thinking a lot about dreams lately. I guess because I've been trying to focus on what it is I want to do with my life, and what it is I'm supposed to be doing, I've allowed myself to dream a bit. I've asked myself the age-old question: "If you could do anything, anything at all, what would you do?" in hopes of uncovering what it is that I really want to do.

So I gather up my big dreams and then I say to myself, "I caaa-aan't." and "That will never really happen."

The other night I was typing away on my computer, not really thinking anything of it, and I suddenly flashed back. I was remembering being in 5th grade and being in a typing class. I had been FREAKING out because we were going to be tested on typing without looking at the keys and I thought there was no way that I would be able to do it. And I don't remember what happened, or if I did well on the test or anything like that. All I remember is thinking, "I will NEVER be able to type without looking at the keys. And I will NEVER be able to type fast. It is just something that will never be a part of my life."

And now here I was, 12 years later, typing like the wind (and not looking at the keys) and not thinking a thing of it. It is just something I do. It is a part of my life that I never think about and probably take for granted. So I got to thinking: what dreams do I have that terrify me right now that could possibly be things I actually take for granted in the future? And on a scarier note: what things am I NOT DOING right now out of fear, that I could be doing with ease? What situations or steps have I avoided that I could have been long past by now? And that SCARES me.

And why do I think that I can't do these things? Where is my faith?

Yesterday, as I was driving and listening to some Disney music, the song "You can fly! You can fly! You can fly!" came on. Because I've seen the movie and know the story, I thought it was kind of funny in the beginning when the children couldn't fly because Peter forgot about the pixie dust. And I realized: sometimes I feel like someone forgot to sprinkle pixie dust on my life and that's why I can't fly.

But that's silly. 'Cuz I've got all the "pixie dust" I need. And I've got Someone who is ready to sprinkle it willingly if I would just trust Him instead of trying to do everything on my own and then giving up in frustration when I don't have what it takes on my own.

Oh, Baby

Last night Trey and I were talking about having babies. Do you remember when I used to be BABY CRAZY? Well, I'm not crazy anymore, but I do still think about having kids from time to time. So, lately, we've been talking about it and trying to decide when would be the best time for us. So Trey asked me if I was ready to get pregnant next month. (sorry if this is TMI but that would mean me getting preggo in just a few weeks if everything went well! Yikes!) And I said, "You know, I'm getting close, but I'm just not quite ready yet."

If you know me, then that might be a major shock haha. If not, you'll just have to take my word for it. :)

See, I went for almost a year being practically DESPERATE to have a baby. I was seeing pregnant women and babies everywhere.

So last night, as we were talking about it, I got to thinking. And this is what I realized: during that time I was baby crazy, I think I had it in my head that having a baby would "complete me." I didn't really know what I wanted out of life (not much change there haha) and I thought that having a baby and being a mother would give me some sort of purpose.

And I think that's why I'm not baby crazy anymore: because I don't need a baby, or anything for that matter, to complete me. Because I have Jesus. I still want to have a baby, I still want to be a mother. And the more I think about it, I think that's something that God has strongly laid on my heart: being the BEST POSSIBLE MOTHER I can be. I was just trying to force that into happening before it was my time.

I'm still trying to figure out what I want out of life, but I also know that God will reveal what He wants me to do in His time. O, how comforting that is. And for now, I get to give all my baby love to the cutest niece in the world:

Here's to babies: May they be part of my future when the time is right.

The Proverbs 31 Woman

So in light of what I was saying yesterday, I decided to look up Proverbs 31. I figured that it might help me to look at an example of a women who really seems to have it all going for her.

I know that a lot of women, including myself at one time, have a really hard time with this passage of scripture. The woman described in this chapter of Proverbs seems to be almost perfect. She seems unattainable, overwhelming and unfair. This time I decided to read the chapter in several different translations to see if I could get anything more out of it that seemed more relevant to my life. I came across one version that I particularly liked:

A Wife of Noble Character
Who can find a virtuous and capable wife?
She is more precious than rubies.
Her husband can trust her,
and she will greatly enrich his life.
She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.

She finds wool and flax
and busily spins it.
She is like a merchant’s ship,
bringing her food from afar.
She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household
and plan the day’s work for her servant girls.

She goes to inspect a field and buys it;
with her earnings she plants a vineyard.
She is energetic and strong,
She makes sure her dealings are profitable;
her lamp burns late into the night.

Her hands are busy spinning thread,
her fingers twisting fiber.
She extends a helping hand to the poor
and opens her arms to the needy.
She has no fear of winter for her household,
for everyone has warm clothes.

She makes her own bedspreads.
She dresses in fine linen and purple gowns.
Her husband is well known at the city gates,
where he sits with the other civic leaders.
She makes belted linen garments
and sashes to sell to the merchants.

She is clothed with strength and dignity,
and she laughs without fear of the future.
When she speaks, her words are wise,
and she gives instructions with kindness.
She carefully watches everything in her household
and suffers nothing from laziness.

Her children stand and bless her.
Her husband praises her:
“There are many virtuous and capable women in the world,
but you surpass them all!”

Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last;
but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.
Reward her for all she has done.
Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.

Proverbs 31:10-31 NLT

I decided to break it down and see what I could pull from this passage and actually apply to my life. Because let's be real, I'm not going to be spinning any time soon. I think, instead of being a to do list that women feel they should follow, Proverbs 31 should be more of a picture of a woman who does all that she can to be the best wife and mother that she can be, which is something that I am VERY interested in. :) Here's my take.

A truly good wife is something valuable,
something that, when found, a husband should hold on to.
She is completely trustworthy and open with her husband.
She doesn't nag him or bring him worry or strife.
Instead, she is a joy to be around and he looks forward to coming home to her.

She finds creative ways to help provide for her family,
and she is creative in the meals she makes and the things she buys,
She takes care of her house and the people in it
and she makes sure that the things that need to get done, get done.

She spends her money wisely and without impulse
and makes decisions that benefit her whole family.
She isn't lazy, but a hard worker
and she makes sure that the things she does do not go to waste.

She is giving and does not hesitate to help those less fortunate than herself.
She doesn't worry about her family's needs,
because she has planned for the future and for emergencies.
She makes sure that her family has what they need.

She is resourceful.
She pays attention to her appearance and dresses appropriately.
Because of her conduct, people can respect her husband
and she supports him however she can.

She holds her head high and has strength of character.
She doesn't worry about the future because she knows it's in God's hands.
She thinks before she speaks
and is kind to everyone.
She makes sure all is right in her home and family.

Her children respect her,
Her husband is proud of her and says:
"You're the best, honey!" ;)

A women who loves the Lord has inner beauty,
which is longer lasting and more valuable than good looks.
The things she does are recognized by others.

Now, please don't take my words as scripture or as what I think you should be doing. They are just my interpretation as it applies to my life. Enjoy:)

Yes, Jesus Loves Me

I am sitting in the cafe alone. It's been a quiet day and I've enjoyed the peace. I think I am really starting to enjoy mornings.

Behind me is a small group of mothers with their young children. A minute ago they started singing "Yes, Jesus Loves Me." It seemed like everything got quiet but the voices of the mother's teaching their babies that old, simple song.

I closed my eyes and listened to them for a minute. "Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so..."

It made me want to cry. Why can't I feel like things are that simple? Life gets complicated as we get older but I'm just so sick of feeling so stressed out and like everything is a big deal.

I'm thinking I need to get up earlier in the mornings more often. I need more of those quiet moments alone that seem to help me re-align.

Of course, now the mothers are singing some loud clapp-y song and I'm feeling so glad we decided to put of having babies for a while longer haha...

Again for the lack of blogging...

...I apologize. I have blogs I want to write (read: move, crazy movers, this new life I'm living) but time, and lack of internet at home (currently) oh, and unpacking, are hindering me. Soooo....I thought I would write something I've been meaning to write since...January...

Church of the Highlands (my now old church) did a series in January about doing 5 things everyday to achieve your goals. If you interested in hearing more you can view the series here.

So, after many months, and much hemming and hawing, I have FINALLY narrowed mine down:

1. Make time for my Number 1
2. Take care of my temple
3. Be a good steward
4. Keep the romance alive
5. Overcome my inhibitions

I don't know why it was so hard for me to come up with these. I guess a lot of it had to do with the fact that I am 1.) indecisive and 2.) interested in just doing too much. I realized that I was putting things on my list that I already did without thinking and, subsequently, decided I needed to fill it with things I wouldn't do naturally: Things I needed to remind myself to do. And hopefully, the more I do them, the more they will become habits and I wont need a list to remind me to do "my 5."

More for me than anything else, I want to expound a little on each of my five:

1. Number one is all about making time for God: my Number One. I think that making time to read His word and to talk to Him is more important than anything else...and something I struggle with. Sometimes it's hard for me to make God my priority and I take my relationship for granted. I say to myself "God's still going to be there for me even if I do (insert some random task(usually sleep some more)) instead of read my Bible this morning." And that's true, He will still be there for me, but what kind of friend am I being if I don't make any time for Him? And how can I have a healthy relationship with Him if I never talk to him? Ya....exactly. (BTW, I'm not saying I don't talk to God, I do. I'm just saying I haven't made my time with Him enough of a priority lately.)

2.) Number 2 is something that's important to me. It's something I talk about and think about and plan for, and then never do. Taking care of my temple, to me, means a lot of things. It means exercising and watching what I eat and taking my vitamins. I want for my body to be a tool that I can use instead of something that holds me back by being too tired or too unhealthy.

3.) Number 3 encompasses several things. I had tried putting them all on the list until I realized that all these little "things" I wanted to do really were in the same vein of wanting to take care of what I have. Being a good steward, to me, means being frugal with our money. It means taking care of our things and being organized. Organization is something that is important to me and helps me get done the things I need to get done. For some reason, the things on my "5" are all things that are important to me but I never seem to do. I guess that's the point?

4.) Number 4 is all about my Number 2. God is my Number 1, Trey is my Number 2. Trey is the most important person on this planet to me and I know I have a huge responsibility when it comes to our marriage. Especially now that Trey is going to be in full-time ministry, I know that one of my big roles is supporting him. Not that that wasn't one of my roles before, it just seems even more important now for some reason. I want to be the very best wife to Trey that I can be and "Keeping the romance alive" means more than just "romance" if that makes sense. It means romantic things, like keeping it fresh and taking time to spend together, but it also means being there for Trey whatever he needs and being a good "life partner."

5.) When I had the first 4 done I had a lot of trouble coming up with number 5. I thought about lots of different things and I thought about my goals. My goals have changed a lot with this move and new situation and I knew that there were things I was going to need to change. Somewhere in the past few years I have become a totally different person than I was before. A few years ago I was outgoing and uninhibited. And lately, I've noticed that I'm...shy? SHY! What am I supposed to do being shy in a place and role that requires me to meet new people and set an example? So I decided to add it to my list and do something about it. They say practice makes perfect so I'm hoping that by "practicing" I can overcome this roadblock and get it off my list!

So there ya go. Or there I go. Time to get to work. I know I'm a bit late (January to April anyone?) but better late than never right? Exactly.

A Cry for Help

Let me tell you...this past week has been fraught with problems. It seems that everything that could go wrong, has:

Our movers have deceived us over and over again and have YET to deliver our stuff. Trey was given a bad check for some work he did which left us in a very bad place, especially considering the move and our trips back and forth to Alabama. I have been sick almost everyday and have had a mouth ulcer that is driving me insane (of course, those last two are probably more a result of the stress but they're not helping). Our house and storage needs to be cleaned out. And I just don't seem to have enough time to get everything that NEEDS to be done, done. Much less the things I had wanted to do.

And on top of those big ones, there have been countless little stresses that are, piled on the foundation of my big stressers, enough to push me over the edge. I'm so much of a mess right now that I feel like I can barely function. Poor Trey has taken the brunt of a lot of my stress.

I feel horrible, I've acted horrible. And those horrible things have left me feeling MORE horrible. It's an endless cycle of horrible that I just want to run to my bed to escape. And then I remember that I don't *have* a bed right now.

I want to cry, but every time I feel the tears someone else walks up to talk to me and I blink them away. I want to scream, but I know it's time for me to act like an adult. I want to stay in bed all day and wish the world would disappear, but there are things that need doing and people that need seeing and I must get up. I want to go away and take a vacation, but we just started a new job. I want my mom, but she's across the country.

Regardless, I have found that I have actually warmed up to North Carolina much more, and much sooner, than I expected. I know that God has a purpose and I DO trust him. I am desperately trying to focus on the things that are going well instead of focusing on the (seemingly countless) things that are going wrong. It's so hard and I just keep telling myself that this has to be satan. And then I tell myself that if satan is attacking this hard, the things we are meant to do in NC must be going to be really awesome.

I cling to the promises that God will provide for us and that he has a purpose and a plan. The doubts and worries seem to come so naturally to me and I'm so exhausted from fighting them off, and suppressing my feelings about the move, and trying to support Trey, and planning for 24/7, and taking care of things from the move (on the side we left as well as the side we're entering), and trying not to let people down, and trying not to fall apart when people seem to keep letting us down and on and on and on. I'm so exhausted, in fact, that I can't hardly sleep. And I have no idea how I'm going to help Trey drive back home tomorrow.

O God, help me! O friends...pray for me. Pray for me and Trey. I know, in my heart of hearts, that everything is going to be ok. I know that God is going to take care of us. And I know that this whole ordeal is something we'll look back on and laugh. Like, the parent's who tell you about their first years of marriage on a shoe-string budget. I hope we can chuckle about this the way they do. I hope that we look into each other's eyes and remember these days with the kind of romantic magic I always feel when older couples share these kinds of stories. I know going through the fire makes you stronger and all I can do is cling to my Jesus.

Believe it or not, I am relieved to not be pregnant or have a baby right now. I know, right?

Anti-Climactic Update

So, if you don't know, Trey and I are moving.

Over the past several months we have been in talks with a church in North Carolina about moving up there to start a 24/7 internship program. Last week we flew up for a second interview and were offered the job.

Trey will be working full time as the director and I will be working part time as his assistant.

We're excited, nervous and all the other emotions that go with moving and big life changes.

I might not be around the blog much for awhile (o biiiiigg change, right?) because we are moving in 3 weeks (the day after Easter) and I've got a lot to do. I just finished a loose schedule for us over the next few weeks and between all the packing and regular activities and crazy things-that-you-never-think-about, our schedule is full and bursting at the seams.

So...I may not have time to write. I have been journaling and I hope that someday I can look back at all this and think about the "good ol' days."

Until then, please pray for everything to go smoothly for us as we make this big transition.

Love,
Lauren

Not a-poem-a-day February

Obviously this has NOT been poem-a-day February. I had started out well but crumbled when our days got so hectic all I wanted to do in my (limited) free-time was sleep.

We just got back (and I mean JUST) from a week long trip to North Carolina this morning. In fact, Trey dropped me off at work on our way back home and I've been here since. So I haven't even been home yet.

It was a long week but a good one. We had traveled up there to meet with some people at a church in Raleigh and it was just totally a God week. Even if nothing comes of it I think it was just totally orchestrated by God to speak some things into our life. I definitely had a good time but I can hear my bed calling me from here. We drove six hours to Atlanta last night, arrived there at one a.m. and then got up at 5:30 and drove the rest of the way here. So ya, long night. I believe Trey is at home taking a nap right now and I am totally jealous. If you're looking for me after 5 tonight I will be dead to the world. Sorry.

I can't wait to share more about what God is doing in our life right now but I think it must wait a little longer. I learned my lesson before in counting my eggs before they have hatched and I don't plan on doing that now.

To all our friends and family who know our situation and have been praying for us: thank you! We have really been trusting God and trying not to take any steps before He gives the go ahead so we'll see what He says!

Love,
Lauren

Prayer

I don't know if I've mentioned anything about it on this blog before but Trey and I are looking for some big changes in our lives this year. Probably the biggest change we are looking at is Trey's job situation. Well, and now my job situation...obviously.

The changes we are most looking at are going to be HUGE. Like, biggest-thing-since-moving-out-and-getting-married huge. And I am scared half to death. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited, but sometimes my excitement gets overpowered by this overwhelming fear. I am constantly giving it back to God. Like, all day long. I count it as a plus that I keep giving it back to God but the struggle does get a little tiring.

You know, I think more people are called to do great things than are actually doing great things. And I can see why. It is terrifying to think of starting something from scratch--to think of changing my entire life and leaving behind everything that is familiar to start something totally new? Well, that's a bit unnerving. But you know what else? We went in to this fast seeking God and his will for our lives. And sometimes God surprises you with what his will is.

I don't want to post just yet what it is we are moving towards. Of course, if it happens, I will post. Our closest friends and our family obviously know what is going on and they are praying for us which is a huge blessing. But, if anyone reads this, would you pray for us to? Just that we know, with certainty, what God wants. We could have it totally wrong. Maybe things aren't supposed to change as much as we think, but we want to do what HE wants, whatever that means.

I'm sorry this is so vague. More to come.

Today I got Fired

That's right. It sounds so ominous doesn't it. And ya...it was.

I got up this morning totally excited. I went to the gym (yay), took a shower, blowdried my hair (never happens) and grabbed the lunch I made last night out of the fridge. I was feeling good. I headed to work, as usual, and thing got rolling.

Then, at about 10:30 this morning, I got fired.

I know a lot of people say, "Oh it wasn't my fault! My boss is just a jerk."

All I'm going to say is that I was wrongly fired. I was accused of not being a team player and of being disrespectful.

If you know me at all, that is not who I am. Not only was I accused of "not being a team player" because I supposedly was having an issue with the training an hour away (which was not true and not even the issue.) I found out later that she had "no problem with my work." So...I actually am a team player?

The real issue is that I actually stood for myself when there was something I didn't agree about. I think what happened is I actually stood up to her when no one had done that before and she didn't like it. For this I was accused of being disrespectful.

Let me tell you this: I was not disrespectful. I would never be disrespectful to an employer. Especially someone whom I was afraid of the way I was afraid of this lady. You can choose to believe that or not.

As far as my boss being a jerk, I am not of that opinion. I was hurt, and actually what happened was wrong and, possibly, even illegal. But the harder I tried to be mad at her, the more I saw her as a blessing. She enabled me to get out of a place I couldn't get out of on my own.

I could say a lot more. And I have, several times to several people. But through it all? I have found myself feeling more blessed and less upset.

Blessed? you ask. Yes, blessed. Blessed because I have known for months that I needed to get out of this job. Blessed because, I believe, God orchestrated this situation when I couldn't. Blessed because I know that I did nothing wrong.

Ever since this all began I have been asking God: "Show me if I was in the wrong. If I was, I repent, and I have nothing more to say. Please search me and reveal to me any mistake I made in this situation."

I continue to believe that I was in the right and that I handled myself with maturity and grace. I was aware enough, during the whole ordeal, to keep myself levelheaded and make a concious effort to be polite and respectful, despite what she said.

I stand by my belief that 2010 is going to be a great year. Whereas this could have been a tragic ordeal, I see it as the begininng of something better.

So this morning I woke up excited, I was distraught, then I was set free.

And may God bring beauty from the broken.

Goin' to the chapel

And I'm not talkin about gettin married; I done did that. I'm actually talking about going to church. I watched the message from this last Sunday online. And it was really good. You can see it here. And it got me thinkin: I need to start going to church. This was a good message to get me in that mindset, too.

I've made resolutions as long as I can remember. Rarely, if ever, have I kept them. I have good intentions, yes, but I guess I'm not so good in the dicipline department. Something Pastor Chris said in this message really spoke to me: God want's to help me. GOD wants to personally help ME. It's like, someone I would look up to, wants to take time out of thier day to mentor me and help me reach my goals. Hello?! That's awesome!

And I realized, I need to be in church. Sure I go to the church, but I work there and I (admittitdly) only sporadically attend. I've realized that it is important for me to get fed. And maybe that will only be online a lot of times, that's ok. I believe that actaully physically going to church is more about the fellowship and I get that well and good working in the cafe. But I am lacking the "getting fed." Time to step it up!

Faith

Why are some times so much easier than others to have faith?

Although 24/7 encompassed some pretty stressful times in my life, it always seemed easier for me to talk to God and to have faith. I find, as I am outside the little bubble, that faith is not always so close to grasp. So often I feel that I've fallen so far away. Times are tough when you have to be an adult! I never knew. And here I am, barely 22 yearls old, newlywed and totally lost. I find myself struggling almost daily with stress, anxiety, fear. I've started developing body aches I'm too young to have because of the stress.

And it all just makes me feel like the biggest failure. A failure who didn't go to college. A failure who can't take care of her family. A failure who didn't plan enough ahead, didn't save enough, didn't choose the right path. The funny thing is, I am a planner, a saver and a thinker. Also, I'm a worrier but I'm not sure if that applies or not.

So as I'm feeling all these things, I realize that I have been being the worst friend to God. I don't trust Him enough, I hardly talk to Him and I am DEFINITELY not listening. What brought me to this realization was when I went to him asking for help. Lately the life-stress that I wasn't prepared for is eating me alive. I didn't have anyone to talk to and I had nowhere to turn and I turned to God. And I asked for help: for protection, for wisdom, for a miracle. And then I realized that I had no right AT ALL to be asking for Him to be a good friend to me when I had been such a terrible one to Him.

Now listen, I know, in my head, that there is nothing we could EVER do to deserve God's love and help. And I know that, for some strange reason, He chooses to give it to us anyway. So I knew that my feelings of unworthiness were just more lies satan was trying to slip in among the feast of other lies he was feeding me. But that didn't really help. I tried to struggle through it and go to God anyway but the whole thing just made me think "after this I'll do better. I'll do this, I'll do that."

It can be very hard for me to have faith. I'm lucky: both my jobs are full of Christians. I have a wonderful, God-fearing husband and family. So why is it so hard for me? It's not like I'm struggling alone in a secular enviornment. And yet I'm not doing much better than if I was. It's all very sad.

My life right now

So this is actually going to be a post about important things but first I have to get some meaningless stuff off my chest.

First, I went to have my yearly lady checkup today and the dr I went to was super great. Unfortunately I was also dressed like a nurse (wearing scrubs, not dressed like a naughty nurse or something)(I am not a nurse), but my hair was all messy and my scrubs are huge on me (they are extra small but I think that may just be to make people who actually need a bigger size feel smaller). I don't know why but I look like a frumpy hobbit when I wear them. Anyway...I kept feeling like people thought I knew what was going on when I actually had no idea. Then, they went to prick my finger and I had to sit in this scary "blood drawing chair" and I was convinced that they had tricked me, telling me they were just going to prick me and that they were actually going to draw my blood so I was all freaked out. And I was all "I know I look like I'm a nurse but I'm not and I'm freaked out by this." And she was all "It's ok." And now I wonder if I didn't even have to tell them I wasn't a nurse because it was probably pretty obvious due to the fact that I LOOKED LIKE AN IDIOT.

Ok moving on. I got a free rotisserie (sp) chicken at whole foods today and I love they way whole foods smells. Yum.

I thought I was going to post some other stuff but now I can't remember. This is why I should write things down. Short term memory thing again.

Also, I am currently enjoying the word "also." Guess you'll just have to put up with it till my writing style changes again.

Also, my writing style will probably change a lot throughout this blog due to what I'm reading, how I'm feeling and possibly what I ate for breakfast. It is always still me. Unless it isn't. And then I'll let you know. You have been duely warned. I am also really bad at spelling so if I'm at work and not on firefox and don't have spell check... you might have to do some deciphering. See? I think that might be spelled wrong too...

Ok on to business:

I have an ANNOUNCEMENT: Trey is going to be in 20/20 this year.

You may or may not know what this means so I will explain. Trey and I met in an internship at our church called 24/7. 24/7 is a three leadership academy for students 18-25 who are interested in going into ministry. You can do one, two or three years. I did two, Trey did one. Then we got married so we could no longer be in the program since you can't be married. However, Trey and I have been talking about our futures and have decided that we are still interested in, at least someday, going into ministry. Enter 20/20. 20/20 is a new program introduced last year that is a part time ministry training school for adults. It teaches a lot of the same things as 24/7 but it is not as involved and people who are married or over 25 can be in it.

This may not sound like a big deal depending on what you know of us. Or it may sound like a bigger deal than it really is. I don't know. I just wanted to let everyone know what was going on with us.

Trey is looking at a possible career change in his near future so this is one of the steps we are taking to find that path for him. We don't know where it will take us although we are doing it for a specific reason and we have a specific end result in mind. Well see. SOOOO...please keep us in mind and pray for us if you think about it that our steps will be guided and we'll make good decisions.

Thanks.
